About SMARTT:

Q:  Is the SMARTT Network a job board or resume bank?
A:
It's neither. Resumes and job postings are not posted on the Web site. However, subscribers to the SMARTT Network can post Western Wisconsin jobs in the SMARTT Mail (Regional Happenings) newsletter and can include them on their company profile. SMARTT was designed so that you can explore opportunities without risk, which is why resumes (which include contact info and work history) are not posted.

Q:  How many businesses are searching for talent using the SMARTT Network?
A:  Currently there are 15 paid subscribers and over 30 other Western Wisconsin companies who are actively searching the SMARTT Network.

Q:  How is the SMARTT Database populated?
A:
We market the SMARTT Network to individuals in Western Wisconsin and across the country through partnerships with the region's higher education institutions (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Wisconsin-Stout, Chippewa Valley Technical College, and Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College), advertising, publicity, media partnerships, and other regional economic development and community organizations.

Our marketing efforts to the alumni of our partnering educational insitutions reach over 50,000 alumni, and our media partnership with WEAU TV-13 allows us to reach Western Wisconsin residents and businesses 60 miles around Eau Claire.

Q:  How many individuals are actually in the database? Are they actively looking for employment?
A:  There are currently about 1,500 individuals with profiles in the database. About 600 are active, meaning they choose to have their profile searched, and they have at least one education and one experience listed in their profile. The rest are what we refer to as "passive talent", or those who may be currently employed, but want to keep their options open for the right opportunity.

Q:  How is the SMARTT Network different from Monster.com or CareerBuilder?
A:  Monster, CareerBuilder, Indeed, SimplyHired, and so on, are job boards. Their purpose is to provide a list of jobs for you to search for, and a way for employers to look at your resume for possible employment. While this works for some, many others are frustrated by the low quality of positions listed on those sites, lack of available opportunities in small-/medium-sized communities, time it takes to search through the positions, and the fact that others can see their identity or conclude who they are by their work history.

The SMARTT Network remedies this by only allowing Western Wisconsin companies to contact individuals about valid available job openings or other opportunities; providing anonymity on your profile so that users cannot see your identity (until you choose to let them); keeping individual profiles skills-based, not an employment history; and making it quick and easy to complete with little follow up (the opportunities come to you).

For employers, you can see complete talent profiles, save your campaigns, share your results all for free. You can become a subscriber for a much more reasonable rate than the national job boards, and you only pay for who you really want to contact. Plus you can build your company's employment brand and the brand of the region with a customizable company profile.

Q:  Where can I find out more about the SMARTT Network?
A:  Go to our About SMARTT section on our website to find how-tos, video demos, press releases, fact sheets and more. You can also call or email our staff if you have specific questions.

Talent Questions:

Q:  Can I post my resume on the SMARTT Network?
A:  No. Instead of having to update and post your resume you can create a skills-based profile that is quick and easy to complete. It only takes about 5 minutes.

Q:  Can I use the SMARTT Network without my current employer knowing that I'm looking for something else?
A:
Yes. Employers who view your profile will not see your name or contact information. If you're really concerned, be sure to log onto SMARTT outside of work.

Q:  Where can I find out more about the companies/subscribers?
A:  Companies who subscribe have a company profile on SMARTT with links to their Web sites.

Q:  How do I know that I will be contacted for legitimate employment opportunities?
A:  All subscribers to SMARTT must have direct ties to Western WI. They must have opportunities available or conduct business in Western WI. No spam. No outside companies contacting you about a position outside of Western Wisconsin.

Q:  What if I'm not interested in an opportunity that a company sent to me?
A:
You can "opt-out" without the company knowing who you are. Just log in to your dashboard and click 'opt-out'. You may get a brief survey asking why you chose to opt-out, but it remains completely anonymous and helps the company understand your decision and make adjustments to their offering if needed.

Q:  I'm not looking for a job change, but I'd like to stay up-to-date on what's going on in Western Wisconsin. Do I still have to create a profile?
A:
You still need a basic account to receive SMARTT Mail, the monthly e-newsletter. You don't need to fill out the skills section and can choose not to be contacted by employers, however we encourage you to do so anyway to get the most out of the SMARTT Network. You never know what might be out there!

When you create your profile, make sure you have the 'Regional Happenings' box checked so that you get the newsletter. You can change this at any time if you wish to stop receiving the newsletter.

Q: I've recently changed my email address and want to change it in my SMARTT account. How do I do this?

A: To change your email in your SMARTT account, simply log in and click on "My Account". There you can change your email and any other information you wish to change.

Employer Questions:

Q:  Can I post open positions on the SMARTT Network?
A:  The best place to advertise Western Wisconsin jobs/opportunities is through the monthly SMARTT Mail publication that is emailed to individuals in the SMARTT Network. This publication reaches more than just those who are searchable - it reaches the "passive talent" as well.

You can also list open positions in your company profile and include links back to your Web site. If you're interested in either of these options, check out the subscription packages.

Q:  How do I contact talent that I'm interested in?
A:  Once you have searched and found individuals who you'd like to contact, you must become a subscriber and purchase the number of contacts you desire. Once you've done this, you can implement a campaign that sends a customized (by you) e-mail asking the individual(s) to "opt-in" to your search. For more about this, check out the Subscriber info and pricing information.

Q:  What if I only want to contact one or two people in the database; do I have to become a subscriber?
A:  You still have to set up an account as a subscriber, but instead of purchasing an annual subscription, you can purchase contacts a la carte. If you are purchasing more than 3 contacts, we suggest becoming a subscriber, which gives you a company profile, reports, and ability to contact individuals at a very affordable rate.

Q:  How much does it cost to search the talent database?
A:  It's FREE! And you can see complete profiles so you know what you're getting before you buy.

Q:  If I end up wanting to contact more people than I initially thought, how do I do that?
A:  Once you're a subscriber, you can purchase contacts as you go. Like any other volume-based system, the more you buy, the lower each contact costs (per purchase transaction). If you don't use them all in one year, don't worry; your contacts roll over as long as you maintain your subscription.

Q:  Can I save my searches to use at another time?
A:  Yes, you can sort and save searches as well as save campaigns and share your results with co-workers. You also have the ability to rate and comment on certain individuals (which are visible only to your company) as you go through the recruitment process.
